Bhubaneswar: Floodwater has breached two more river embankments in Odisha, one each in Puri and Jagatsinghpur district, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena on Wednesday.
The district administration and engineers of the Water Resources Department are working round the clock to tackle the situation. Rescue operations are also underway by ODRAF, NDRF, and Fire Service personnel.
Such a level of water is being experienced after around 10 years. The next 24 hours are crucial when the peak flood will pass through and reach the sea. Subsequently, the water level will recede, said Jena.
The falling trend of water level at Mundali started today after 6 am. The water level is falling at 17,000 cusecs per hour after 9 am and it may reach 25,000 to 30,000 cusec per hour in the next two to three hours.
Meanwhile, the outflow of water from Hirakud is 6.79 lakh cusec. The peak discharge at Khairmal was 9.84 lakh cusec and there will be a falling trend. Its impact will be seen at Mundali in Cuttack after 24 hours.
In view of the likely Low Pressure Area over Bay of Bengal on August 19, Revenue Minister Pramila Mallik has asked the district administration of Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur to be on alert.
