Kandhamal: A special court in Odisha’s Kandhamal district convicted two men and sentenced them to life imprisonment on Friday for gang-raping a 12-year-old girl.
Announcing the verdict, Judge Rajesh Das imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 on each. The court also ordered the District Legal Services Authorities to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the survivor’s family.
Altogether four people were accused in the case. While one is still absconding, another accused was acquitted by the court, Special Public Prosecutor Asim Praharaj said.
According to reports, the incident occurred in 2021 in the Hiringia police station area when the accused persons forcibly took the girl from her house and gang-raped her in a nearby forest.
