Bhubaneswar: In two separate and horrifying incidents of patricide reported from different parts of Odisha on the same day, two persons allegedly murdered their fathers in brutal attacks.
In the state capital, a person was allegedly killed by his son in a suspected family dispute at Chakeisiani near Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar. The victim’s blood-soaked body was recovered by Mancheswar police from the spot near Manchanath High School. The body has been sent for post-mortem to Capital Hospital. Police have detained the son and are interrogating him to ascertain the motive behind the gruesome murder.
In a similar incident in Sambalpur district, Dhaneshwar Bhoi (65) was allegedly beaten to death by his son Gobinda Bhoi (45) at Manapali village under Kuchinda police station.
According to reports, an argument broke out between the father and son on Monday night. In a fit of rage, Gobinda attacked his father with the help of an axe when the latter was asleep, inflicting severe injuries. The critically injured Dhaneshwar was first rushed to Kuchinda Hospital and later referred to VIMSAR Burla in a 108 ambulance. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way at Laida. His body is currently at Laida Hospital.
Kuchinda police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Both incidents have sent shockwaves across the state, raising serious concerns over rising familial violence and mental stress within families.
Police in both cases are investigating the exact circumstances and motives behind these shocking patricide cases.
