Jajpur: Police have arrested two mobile phone snatchers and recovered 12 stolen mobile phones, including one snatched from a woman on the National Highway under Barachana police station limits in Jajpur district.
The breakthrough came following a mobile snatching incident on the night of July 19, when a young woman was talking on her phone near Apsara Hotel on the National Highway. Two bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched her mobile phone and fled the spot. Based on her complaint, Barachana police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Using mobile location tracking, police traced and arrested the two accused from Tilada village under Salepur police station limits in Cuttack district. The arrested persons have been identified as Sk Nayamuddin (45) and Syed Ali Ajimuddin (30).
During the operation, police recovered the victim’s mobile phone along with 11 other stolen mobile phones and seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to their involvement in multiple mobile snatching incidents, police said.
A case has been registered at Barachana Police Station. The two accused were produced before a local court on Tuesday, Barachana IIC Jagadish Kar said.
Senior officials from nine state government departments attended the meeting along with the Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services. Odisha currently has a network of 86 prisons across the state.
