Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police detained two youths from West Bengal for allegedly attempting to abduct a minor girl in the Dumduma area of Bhubaneswar late on Sunday night.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Gopal Majumdar and Mrityunjay Ghosh from Medinipur, sedated the girl and tried to kidnap her while she was unconscious. Locals intervened just in time and rescued the girl. Locals reportedly detained the accused duo before handing them over to the police.
It is learnt that the accused, who were working as labourers in a local hotel, were reportedly heavily intoxicated during the kidnap attempt.
The police have sent the minor girl to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical treatment. While it’s yet to be confirmed if the victim was raped, locals suspect the accused might have had intentions to do so.
Both accused individuals are being interrogated, and the police are investigating their backgrounds and possible involvement in similar crimes. The police will conduct a detailed medical examination, including a forensic test, after the recovery of the girl.
