Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, two women died due to electrocution in Ranjagola village under Hindol Balimi police station in Dhenkanal district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Manisha Dehuri and Ranju Dehuri.
According to reports, a live electricity wire had snapped and fallen to the ground due to the previous night’s Kalbaisakhi thunderstorm. When Ranju went towards the backyard of the house in the wee hours of Wednesday, she accidentally came in contact with the fallen wire and suffered a severe electric shock. She screamed in agony. Hearing her cries, Manisha rushed to rescue her but was also electrocuted upon touching the live wire.
Family members immediately rushed to the spot and took both women in critical condition first to Khajuriakata Community Health Centre and later to Hindol Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, doctors declared both dead on arrival.
The incident has sent a wave of shock and grief in the village. An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the electrocution.
