Bhubaneswar: Two elderly women, related as sisters-in-law, were killed after being hit by a train near Basta railway station in Baleshwar district on Monday morning.
The victims have been identified as Rukchand Marandi from Baunsatopha village and her sister-in-law, a resident of Parulia village.
According to reports, The two women had visited Basta market earlier in the day. While returning home, they attempted to cross the railway tracks close to Basta station when the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express hit them. Both died on the very spot.
Upon being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
