Bhubaneswar: Two women were killed by a wild tusker at Laimura forest section area in the Deogarh district on Friday night.
The deceased women are Surubali Kisan and Khairi Kisan.
The incident took place when both women were asleep in their home when the wild elephant sneaked into the home by breaking the mud wall of the house. Both Surubali and Khairi started running to save lives from the giant animal.
However, the jumbo didn’t spare the duo. It caught them with its trunk and smashed them to the ground. The women died on the spot.
Later, the pachyderm went back into the forest.
The forest officials reached the village and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, palpable tension prevailed in the village as locals alleged forest department apathy that led to the loss of human lives and properties.
