Pattamundai: Two labourers were killed and three others sustained critical injuries after a pickup van carrying them overturned near Mugakani village under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara district on Wednesday.
According to reports, the workers were returning after completing road construction work when the accident occurred. The pickup van they were travelling in reportedly lost balance, overturned, and rolled off the road near Mugakani village.
The deceased have been identified as Sumant Mohanty of Gokhani village and Kumar Barik of Chinchiri village.
Three other workers sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and were initially rescued by locals before being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.
Sources said the accident took place while the labourers were on their way back after finishing work in the area. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
