Angul: In a tragic incident, two persons were killed after an unidentified vehicle rammed into their motorcycle late on Monday night while they were returning from the Meru Jatra festival in Purunakote police station area of Angul district.
The victims have been identified as Dhirendra Sahu (23) and Purnachandra Sahu (41) of Badahinsar village under Jarapada police station.
According to reports, the Meru Jatra was celebrated on Monday at Jagannathpur village under Purunakote police station. After the procession, traditional Danda Nacha performances were held, which continued late into the night. The victims had gone to watch the Meru Yatra and stayed to enjoy the Danda Nach. While returning to their village on a motorcycle around 1 am, the duo were hit by a speeding unidentified vehicle. The impact was so severe that both were thrown off the road.
Upon being informed by locals, Purunakot police reached the spot and rushed both of them to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital. However, doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The bodies have been kept in the hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
