Jajpur: Unable to bear India’s defeat to Australia in the ICC Men’s World Cup Cricket final on Sunday, a youth from Odisha’s Jajpur district ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his neighbour’s house. A sports enthusiast, the victim has been identified as Debranjan Das (23), the younger son of Nilmani Das of the village.
The tragic incident was reported from Kulsahi village in Jari panchayat under Binjharpur police limits of Jajpur district.
After discovering the youth’s body was found hanging from his neighbour’s ceiling on Monday morning, his family informed Binjharpur police about the incident. The police rushed the youth to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
According to Prustam Sahu of Kulsahi village, Devranjan was suffering from some mental disorders and has been under medication. On Sunday, he was watching the India-Australia cricket match at his neighbour’s place and felt depressed when India lost to the Aussies in the final match.
A pall of gloom descended on the area as the news of the youth’s unnatural death spread.
