Bargarh: In a bizarre incident, a couple in Khairpali village under Sohela police limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district ‘donated’ their 17-day-old male child to another couple looking to adopt a male child as their son. The incident has become the hot topic of discussion in Bargarh and learning about it, the District Child Protection Unit reached the village and rescued the infant. The child has been admitted to the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

According to reports, Ganesh Bhosagar of Khairpali village under Sohela police limits has six children. Living in abject poverty, he is unable to provide two square meals to his family every day. So the youngest child, a baby boy, was born, he ‘donated’ the child to Tikeshwar Meher of Duanpali village.

Tikeshwar did not have a son and he accepted the new-born as his son with the assurance of giving the child the best possible in life.

On receiving the information, District Child Protection Officer Tapan Kumar Patra reached Tikeshwar’s house in Duanpali village and rescued the child. Besides, he called both the family members to his office and interrogated them.

During interrogation, Ganesh said that he has five sons and a daughter. On the contrary, his acquaintance Tikeshwar has no son. He said that with the consent of both families, he gave the baby boy to Tikeshwar.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to ascertain the purpose the child was given to another family, District Child Protection Officer Pan said.
