Berhampur: An under trial prisoner allegedly died on Monday by suicide in Bhanjanagar Sub-Jail in Ganjam district.
The deceased under trial prisoner has been identified as Tofan Nabik.
According to Bhanjanagar police sources, Tofan’s body was recovered from the bathroom of Bhanjanagar Sub-Jail. He was rushed to the Sub Divisional Hospital at Bhanjanagar where he was declared dead by the doctors.
Bhanjanagar police have seized Tofan’s body and launched an inquiry into the incident.
While jail authorities are tight-lipped over the issue, the deceased’s family members have held jail authorities for Tofan’s death.
Tofan a native of Dumakumpa village under Bhanjanagar police limits was arrested in connection with a murder and was lodged in Bhanjanagar Sub-Jail.
