Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner lodged in Jharsuguda Sub-Jail on Tuesday attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of the Jharsuguda District Court building.
The prisoner, identified as Sanatan Singh, is facing charges of molestation and was scheduled to appear in court today. Though the lawyers present in the court building tried to prevent him from jumping, Singh overpowered them and tried to commit suicide. He sustained injuries in the process and was rushed to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
The undertrial prisoner has been absconding for about a year since he committed the crime of molesting a minor in the Junadihi area of the district in 2022. He was nabbed by Belapahada police in 2023 and subsequently brought before the court for legal proceedings.
