Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner died in Rourkela jail. He allegedly died in the morning while undergoing treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital.
The deceased was identified as 45-year-old Rajesh Kujur from Dalki village under Raibaga police station in Sundargarh district.
He was arrested by the Birmitrapur Excise Department on Tuesday for selling illicit liquor and sent to jail. Kujur fell ill at 8:30 pm in the jail and was admitted to Rourkela government hospital. He died during treatment.
The Rourkela Jail Superintendent stated that Kujur suffered a seizure and was admitted to the hospital, where he died.
His family alleged physical torture by excise officials, demanding an investigation and compensation. An investigation has been initiated by Raghunathpali police.
