Brahmapur: An undertrial prisoner allegedly died by suicide inside the Brahmapur Circle Jail, with his body found hanging in a toilet on the jail premises, police said.
The deceased was identified as Shantanu Patra, a resident of the Khantapada area of Baleshwar district.
According to police, Patra was arrested from Karnataka in connection with the alleged murder of a woman and an attempt to murder her daughter in the Srimanagar area under Nimakhandi police station on August 10, 2025. Brahmapur police arrested him on August 16, 2025, following which he had been lodged in the jail as an undertrial prisoner.
The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated by police. Further investigation is underway.
