Bhawanipatna: Police from Jaipatna police station in Kalahandi district on Thursday recovered the body of an unidentified young man from the Baner river. The deceased is estimated to be between 30 and 35 years of age, and his identity is yet to be established.
According to sources, the incident came to light at around 10 am when villagers went to the river for bathing and noticed a body floating in the water. They immediately informed the local sarpanch, Gautam Majhi, who reached the spot and alerted the police and the fire services.
Subsequently, personnel from the fire department, with assistance from the police, retrieved the body from the river. The deceased was sent to the Jaipatna Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Efforts are also underway to establish the identity of the deceased, officials said.
