Puri: The decomposed body of an unidentified woman, believed to be aged around 22-25 years, was recovered from a river embankment on Wednesday in Puri district, triggering concern in the area, police said.
The body was found in the Kaliachera area under Chandanpur police station limits. An empty trolley bag, a pair of white sandals, an electric wire and an odhani were recovered from near the spot, raising suspicion about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police suspect that the woman may have been killed and her body dumped at the location, though the exact cause of death has not yet been established.
On being informed, Chandanpur police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
Police are also working to establish the identity of the deceased. The circumstances of the death, including whether it was a case of murder, are expected to become clearer after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
