Bhubaneswar: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country. Of these, 8 will be in Odisha.
In Odisha, the new KVs will be opened at Titlagarh and Patnagarh in Bolangir district, Khurda, Athmallik and Talcher in Angul, Kuchinda in Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Jeypore in Koraput.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended its approval to the new Kendriya Vidyalayas under the Civil/Defence sector. The Cabinet also approved the expansion of the existing KV at Shivamogga in Karnataka, a release from CCEA stated.
The requirement of funds for the establishment of new KVs and expansion of existing KVs has been estimated at Rs 5,872.08 crore spread over eight years from 2025-26. This includes a capital expenditure component of Rs 2,862.71 crore and an operational expenditure of Rs 3,009.37 crore.
At present, there are 1,256 KVs, including three in Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran and approximately 13.56 lakh students are studying in these KVs.
