Bhubaneswar: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi visited the Utkalika Handloom store in Bhubaneswar on Friday and purchased handwoven textiles to mark National Handloom Day.
The Minister paid for the products through UPI, highlighting the ease of digital transactions. He later shared details of the visit on his X handle.
“India’s handloom is a symbol of tradition, craftsmanship and the hard work of countless artisans,” Joshi posted. “On #NationalHandloomDay, I chose to support this legacy by purchasing handloom products from Utkalika, an Odisha State cooperative in Bhubaneswar while paying through UPI which has become an irreplaceable part of our daily lives.”
He urged people to embrace Vocal For Local and adopt digital payments.
Utkalika, run by the Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society, showcases handwoven sarees, dress materials and fabrics made by weavers from across the state.
