Subarnapur: Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Public Enterprises Krushna Chandra Mahapatra on Monday undertook a one-day visit to Subarnapur district and reviewed the progress of key urban development projects across Sonepur Municipality and the NACs of Binika and Tarabha.

At the District Collector’s conference hall in Sonepur, the Minister held a detailed review of ongoing works, with a strong focus on sanitation, drinking water supply, and infrastructure development. He directed the Executive Officer, Rushi Majhi, to ensure regular cleaning of drains, timely repair of old drainage systems, and planned construction of new drains to improve urban sanitation.

Taking note of the prevailing summer conditions, Mahapatra instructed officials to urgently repair defunct drinking water projects and enhance water supply systems. He also called for expediting incomplete works, particularly those under the Public Health Department, and emphasised the need for improved road infrastructure, sanitation, and slum area development.

Later, the Minister laid foundation stones for multiple projects under Sonepur Municipality, including a new municipal office building, a gallery at Royal Ground, the development of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Park, a multi-purpose community centre in Ward No. 14, and the beautification of Gopaljee Seva Sadan.

In Biramaharajpur, Mahapatra performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the ₹20 lakh Raja Bandha restoration and beautification project. He also inaugurated the Champamal Gram Panchayat office, which will temporarily function as the office of the Notified Area Council (NAC).

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said collective efforts had led to Biramaharajpur being notified as an urban area. He announced that ₹6 crore has been sanctioned for a permanent NAC building. Additionally, ₹50 lakh each has been allocated for street lighting, roads and drainage, and sanitation works in the area.

Among those present were Biramaharajpur MLA Raghunath Jagadala, District Collector Dr. Nruparaj Sahu, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Rajendra Majhi, and Sub-Collector Surendra Meher.

Mahapatra reiterated the government’s commitment to holistic urban development, stating that improvements in drainage, drinking water facilities, parks, and other civic amenities would be prioritised to enhance the quality of life in the region.
