Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has closely coordinated with the district administration of Jharsuguda to launch Suryodhyam, a comprehensive rural development initiative aimed at transforming seven villages in the district into self-sustaining, community-centric ecosystems.

The initiative is expected to benefit 8,000+ community members through focused interventions spanning infrastructure development, healthcare, education, livelihoods, and local governance.

As part of the Suryodhyam model village initiative, a wide range of infrastructure interventions will be undertaken across the identified villages, including improving roads, drainage systems, street lighting, Primary Health Centers, anganwadis, schools, water bodies, and irrigation infrastructure.

Alongside these efforts, the initiative will focus on enhancing access to healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities while strengthening grassroots institutions such as youth clubs, Village Development Committees, Panchayat sub-committees and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to foster greater community participation in local governance and development planning.

Formalizing this collaborative vision, Vedanta Aluminium signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of the Jharsuguda district administration reinforcing their continued collaboration towards sustainable rural development. Through this effort, we aim to build community ownership of progress and create scalable models of village development that deliver lasting value for Jharsuguda district, while also supporting its long-term growth.”

Kunal Motiram Chavan, District Collector and District Magistrate, Jharsuguda, said, “Vedanta’s Suryodhyam initiative, which is being implemented in close coordination with the Jharsuguda district administration, will complement our ongoing efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure, improve access to essential services, and enhance the quality of life in villages. We see this as an opportunity for enabling joint public-private efforts to drive coordinated, outcome-oriented development and achieve inclusive rural transformation.”

Suryodhyamaims to establish the seven villages asscalable and replicable models of integrated rural development.
