Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, recognised the invaluable contributions of doctors and healthcare professionals who are strengthening access to quality healthcare across rural India.

As part of its community development efforts, the company has deployed numerous frontline health professionals through its extensive network of hospitals, mobile health units (MHU) and diagnostic centres, advancing access to essential healthcare for 7 lakh+ people in Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

National Doctors’ Day is an occasion to honour the critical role medical professionals play in sustaining a healthy workforce and resilient communities. It serves to underscore the importance of quality healthcare in enabling plant productivity and long-term societal progress. The occasion also reinforces the need for leading organisations in India to support healthcare ecosystems.

Highlighting the critical role of medical professionals, Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Doctors play a pivotal role in ensuring good health and improving the quality of life of our communities. Through their expertise and dedication, they ensure that quality medical care reaches people when and where it is needed most. At Vedanta Aluminium, we are supporting their efforts by strengthening rural healthcare access through sustained investments in medical infra and consistent community outreach.”

In FY26, Vedanta Aluminium continued to expand rural access to quality healthcare through a comprehensive range of efforts. In Jharsuguda, the company’s mobile health units delivered doorstep primary healthcare to more than 18,000 beneficiaries, while awareness initiatives on tuberculosis, malaria, diabetes, cancer, and heart health reached over 2.8 lakh people. Meanwhile, the District Satellite Hospital in Jharsuguda, which is extensively supported by Vedanta Aluminium, provided medical care to 1.17 lakh+ patients.

Sorojini Thakur, a resident of Kudaloi village in Jharsuguda, said, “Healthcare services were once difficult to access in our remote village. Today, Vedanta’s mobile health unit ensures that doctors visit regularly, helping us receive timely consultations and treatment. It has brought much-needed healthcare support closer to our doorstep.”

Complementing these efforts, Vedanta Lanjigarh’s flagship Project Aarogya positively impacted over 1.30 lakh people through the Vedanta Hospital in Lanjigarh, mobile health units, mega health camps, emergency medical support, and maternal and child healthcare initiatives, supporting people from across 65+ villages in Kalahandi and Rayagada every month.

In the past year, Vedanta Aluminium Mines conducted over 3,500 health camps, benefiting more than 36,000 people across 18 villages in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh district through regular medical consultations, free medicines and preventive healthcare services. Further, the company’s mobile health unit at Sijimali conducted 753 health camps between April 2025 and June 2026, benefitting more than 20,800 people through regular consultations, medicines and primary healthcare services.

In Chhattisgarh, the BALCO Hospital in Korba provides quality multi-speciality healthcare to over 2.2 lakh patients annually, while community outreach initiatives such as Project Arogya are enhancing access to primary healthcare in remote areas. Further strengthening the region’s healthcare ecosystem, the BALCO Medical Centre in Raipur is enabling access to advanced yet affordable cancer care for patients across the country and is fast emerging as a leader in India’s oncology space.

By working closely with healthcare professionals, government institutions and community stakeholders Vedanta Aluminium continues to expand healthcare access and foster healthier communities across its operational regions.
