Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested Himanshu Das, former Managing Director of the Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society (LAMPCS) Ltd., Betnoti in Mayurbhanj district, for allegedly misappropriating Rs 40.94 lakh from the cooperative society’s funds. He is being produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada.
According to Vigilance, the case pertains to alleged large-scale financial irregularities committed during the 2017-18 financial year while Das was serving as the Managing Director of the society. Investigators alleged that he collected money from loanee farmers towards repayment of agricultural and crop loans, member share capital contributions, application form fees and administrative charges, issuing receipts to acknowledge the payments.
However, instead of depositing the money into the society’s account, Das allegedly failed to record the transactions in the official day book of Betnoti LAMPCS and diverted the funds for personal use. The total amount allegedly misappropriated has been pegged at Rs 40,94,306.
Based on the allegations, Odisha Vigilance registered Baleshwar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 12 dated July 30, 2026 under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code against Das, who was dismissed from government service on April 4, 2022.
The anti-corruption agency said further investigation into the case is underway.
