Baripada: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Arabinda Mohanty, Executive Engineer (EE), R&B Sub-Division, Betanati under Baripada R&B Division in Mayurbhanj district, and contractor Biswanath Pal in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Both were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada.
The agency said Mohanty’s assets were calculated at 309% of his known sources of income, which he could not explain satisfactorily. In this connection, Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No. 25 dated 07.10.2026 has been registered against Mohanty, his spouse and Pal under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018.
Searches led to the recovery of movable and immovable properties worth crores, including a triple-storey building of about 3,500 sq ft at Angargadia, Baleshwar; a double-storey building of about 1,800 sq ft at Balianta, Khordha; a five-acre farmhouse at Basantapur, Baleshwar, with two fish ponds and a poultry farm; and 23 high-value plots—21 in and around Baleshwar town and two at Balianta, Bhubaneswar.
Other seizures included ₹10,57,500 in cash, around 800 grams of gold, deposits of ₹69,69,604, a Brezza four-wheeler, two two-wheelers and household articles valued at ₹12.32 lakh.
During a search at Pal’s Baleshwar residence, Vigilance recovered land documents relating to 20 plots that Mohanty had allegedly kept there. Some documents were found buried in the ground and were retrieved after digging. A locker held benami in Pal’s name was also traced; it allegedly contained ₹2.94 lakh in cash and 500 grams of gold belonging to Mohanty, which were seized.
Pal has been booked for allegedly abetting the concealment of Mohanty’s disproportionate assets. Further investigation is underway.
