Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar has convicted Sarat Kumar Rout, a former Junior Clerk in the office of the Drugs Inspector, Jajpur Road. Rout was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a drug license.

The court, presided over by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, sentenced Rout to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine. Following the verdict, Rout was taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.

The case against Rout was investigated by the Odisha Vigilance Department under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The conviction marks a strong stance against corruption and bribery in public offices.
