Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today apprehended a Revenue Inspector (RI) posted at Mangarajpur under Tangi-Choudwar Tahasil in Cuttack district, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a landowner.
The accused RI, Rajaram Bandra, had demanded the bribe to submit a favourable report in a mutation case involving the conversion of the complainant’s Patita (waste) land to Homestead land. The landowner had applied online for the mutation on March 10, 2026, following guidelines of the Revenue & Disaster Management (R&DM) Department.
According to the complaint, Bandra contacted the landowner and instructed him to visit the RI office today (March 29, 2026) with the demanded amount of Rs 30,000. He allegedly threatened that unless the bribe was paid, he would not furnish a favourable report in the mutation case.
Irked by the demand and threat, the landowner approached the Odisha Vigilance authorities. A trap was laid, and the Vigilance team caught Bandra red-handed in his office while he was accepting the bribe money. The entire tainted bribe amount of Rs 30,000 was recovered from the possession of the accused RI and seized on the spot.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Sri Bandra from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS registered a case against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation is underway.
