Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Mukesh Kumar Mishra, Traffic Inspector (OMVD) in the office of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Sundaragada, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a truck owner.
According to the Vigilance release, the accused officer had demanded the amount as a monthly quota for June and July 2026 to allow the complainant’s two HYVA trucks to operate smoothly without any hindrance under his jurisdiction. Unable to meet the demand, the truck owner lodged a complaint with the Vigilance authorities.
Acting on the information, a Vigilance team trapped Mishra red-handed while he was taking the bribe. The entire tainted amount of Rs 20,000 was recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to the accused from the angle of disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Rourkela Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 06 dated 02.08.2026) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigation against the Traffic Inspector is in progress.
