Berhampur: In a major breakthrough, the Odisha Vigilance has exposed a large-scale financial scam at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kodala in Ganjam district, involving the misappropriation of government funds amounting to more than Rs 2 crore.
According to sources, the Berhampur Vigilance Police Station registered a case on April 8, 2026, following complaints that hospital staff had allegedly prepared fake arrear salary bills and siphoned off public money between 2023 and 2025.
The accused reportedly created fraudulent arrear salary bills in the names of various hospital employees by falsifying official records. The embezzled amount has been provisionally estimated to exceed Rs 2 crore.
The case has been registered under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) — 409, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B. Charges have also been framed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 316(5), 336(3), 338, 340(2), and 61(2).
Vigilance officials have arrested five persons so far in connection with the scam. They are Jatin Kumar Bhuyan (Senior Assistant), Bharati Pradhan (MPHW), Gopal Nahak (Attendant), Manu Nayak (Sweeper), Rama Chandra Mallika (Attendant, PHC Beguniapada).
All five arrested individuals were produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur and have been forwarded to judicial custody.
