Balasore: Tension prevailed in Raigadia village under Khaira block of Balasore district on Sunday after irate villagers and family members of a deceased minor girl staged a road blockade, alleging medical negligence.
The deceased has been identified as Lipisita Ram, the elder daughter of Balaram Ram, a resident of the village.
According to the grieving father, Lipisita had been suffering from cold and fever for the past two days. On Saturday, she was taken to a clinic at Tudigadia market for treatment.
“We consulted Dr. Debakanta Padhi. After he administered an injection, we brought her back home. However, her condition worsened rapidly. We rushed her to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival,” Balaram Ram told reporters at the protest site.
He further alleged that the attending doctor at the government hospital hinted at improper treatment being administered earlier.
“The doctor gave her the wrong injection, which led to her death. We have the prescription as evidence. We are blocking the road to demand justice—not just for my daughter, but to prevent such negligence from affecting others in the future,” he added.
The villagers blocked the road for several hours, demanding strict action against the doctor. Traffic was disrupted and tension remained high in the area.
Meanwhile, Dr. Debakanta Padhi has gone missing following the incident. Khaira police promptly arrived at the scene and assured the agitated villagers that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
