Bhubaneswar: A retired Village Level Worker (VLW) from Deogaon Block in Bolangir district, has been convicted and sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case on Thursday.
A special vigilance court in Bolangir also imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on Biharilal Barik who was found guilty of misappropriating government rice and cash meant for developmental works under the NFFW and SGRY schemes by manipulating official records.
The vigilance had charge-sheeted Barik under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sections 467 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
Following his conviction, the Vigilance department will now move to stop Barik’s pension.
