Sambalpur: In a tragic incident, a first-year civil engineering student from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, Sambalpur, drowned while bathing in the power channel of the Hirakud Dam on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Priyanshu Prakash Behera, a 19-year-old from Dhenkanal and the son of Sanjay Behera.
According to reports, Priyanshu and a group of friends had gone to the power channel for a morning bath.
While bathing, he was swept into deeper waters and drowned. His friends managed to rescue him and rushed him to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR). However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
