Watchman Bitten By Snake At Udala Govt Office; Condition Stable

Udala (Mayurbhanj): A watchman on duty at the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer, Lift Irrigation, in Ward No. 10 of Udala NAC was bitten by a snake on Friday evening.

The victim, Mochiram Tudu, a resident of Bahalda, was carrying out his routine duties when the incident occurred at around 8 p.m.

According to reports, Tudu was sitting on a chair inside the office when a snake hiding underneath suddenly bit him twice on the leg.

Displaying remarkable presence of mind, Tudu managed to free himself, caught and killed the snake, placed it in a polythene bag, and immediately cycled to the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. As he was unable to identify the species of the snake, he took it along to help doctors provide appropriate medical care.

“I was sitting on a chair in the office when the snake hiding underneath bit me twice. After escaping, I caught and killed the snake, put it in a polythene bag, and took it with me to the hospital,” Tudu said.

Doctors admitted him for treatment and observation. Hospital sources said Tudu responded well to treatment and his condition is now stable.

The incident has highlighted the need for regular inspection of government office premises, particularly during the monsoon season, when snake sightings are more common.
