Udala (Mayurbhanj): In an unusual turn of events, a watchman who was bitten twice by a snake while on duty at a government office here on Friday night caught and killed the reptile before cycling to a hospital with it in a polythene bag.
The incident took place at around 8 pm at the office of the Assistant Executive Engineer, Lift Irrigation, in Ward No. 10 of Udala NAC. The victim, Mochiram Tudu, a resident of Bahalda, was performing his routine duties when the snake hiding beneath a chair suddenly bit him twice on the leg.
Instead of fleeing the spot, Tudu managed to free himself and catch the snake. He killed it, placed it in a polythene bag and immediately set off for the Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital on his bicycle.
Tudu said he carried the dead snake with him because he could not identify its species and wanted doctors to determine the appropriate treatment.
“I was sitting on a chair in the office when the snake hiding underneath bit me twice. After escaping, I caught and killed it, put it in a polythene bag and took it with me to the hospital,” he said.
Doctors admitted Tudu for treatment and observation. Hospital sources said he responded well to treatment and his condition was stable.
