Well-Marked Low Pressure Over Bay Of Bengal; Red Warning For Several Odisha Districts: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coasts intensified into a well-marked low pressure area over the same region at 8.30 AM today, the IMD said.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. It is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.

Forecast for today till tomorrow morning:

The IMD has issued a Red Warning (Take Action) for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places very likely over the districts of Baleshwar, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

Orange Warning (Be Prepared To Take Action): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at a few places over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 40-50 kmph very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over Baragarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely over Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.

Forecast for Monday, August 31: Red Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places very likely over Baragarh.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Kendujhar, Subarnapur, Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind 40-50 kmph very likely over the same districts.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Rayagada. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind 30-40 kmph very likely over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh.
