Balasore: The Balasore Police on Wednesday busted a gang involved in the dacoity of Union Bank at Chandaneswar which took place on April 26.
The armed robbers had looted Rs 45 lakh cash and gold ornaments from the bank. So far, six members of the gang from West Bengal have been nabbed, said SP Sagarika Nath.
The Police have recovered Rs 6 lakh and 300 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh have been recovered.
“All operations of this gang were outsourced. The gang was operating like a corporate entity. One group was doing the planning and execution, another group used to collect local intelligence and another group used to provide vehicles and other logistics and arms,” she said.
The gang’s kingpin used criminals from West Bengal to commit crimes in Odisha and vice versa. So far, the involvement of the gang in 10 cases has been detected including some bank dacoities.
“Five more persons who are involved in the case have been identified and will be arrested soon. The six accused will be taken on remand for further investigation,” Nath added.
