Western Odisha Boils Under Heat Wave Conditions

Bhubaneswar: Parts of Odisha sizzled under intense heat wave conditions as mercury breached 40°Celsius in as many as 17 places in the state today.

Most places in the western part of the state turned into a seething cauldron.

Sonepur was the hottest place in the state with a maximum day temperature of 44.1°C followed by Sambalpur and Hirakud 43.7°C each, Jharsuguda 43.6°C, Bhawanipatna 43.0°C, Boudh 42.8°C, Bolangir and Titlagarh 42.5°C each, Bargarh 42.2°C, Sundargarh 41.3°C, Nuapada 41°C and Phulbani 40°C.

The temperature in coastal Odisha was comparatively lower.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum day temperature of 34.4°C and 35.0°C respectively.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the Maximum temperature (Day temperature) is likely to be above normal by 4-6°Celsius at one or two places over the districts during the next 4-5 days. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during the next 4-5 days.

The IMD has issued ‘Orange’ alerts for some districts in the western part of the state warning of heat wave to severe heat wave conditions.
