Western Odisha Heats Up As Temperatures Cross 36°C In Several Districts

Bhubaneswar: Daytime temperatures across Odisha remained largely moderate to warm on Tuesday, with several interior pockets inching toward the mid-30°C mark, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department.

Sambalpur and Sonepur emerged among the hottest locations in the state, each recording a maximum temperature of 36.6°C, closely followed by Bolangir at 36.3°C and Jharsuguda at 36.0°C. Other western districts such as Talcher (35.4°C), Hirakud (35.5°C), and Bargarh (34.4°C) also reported relatively high daytime temperatures, indicating a gradual build-up of heat in interior regions.

In contrast, coastal districts experienced comparatively milder conditions. Paradip recorded one of the lowest maximum temperatures at 30.2°C, while Puri (30.9°C) and Gopalpur (30.8°C) also remained on the cooler side due to maritime influence. The state capital Bhubaneswar reported a maximum of 32.7°C, while Cuttack recorded 32.4°C, reflecting typical early pre-summer conditions.

A clear regional contrast was observed, with western and interior districts being warmer than coastal areas. Stations like Sundargarh (34.0°C), Angul (35.1°C), and Keonjhargarh (32.1°C) fell in the mid-range, highlighting uneven heat distribution across the state.

Minimum temperatures across Odisha remained largely comfortable, ranging between 17°C and 23°C. Baripada recorded one of the lowest minimum temperatures at 17.8°C, while coastal and southern stations such as Puri (24.6°C) and Malkangiri (20.2°C) stayed relatively warmer at night.

While no station has yet breached extreme heatwave thresholds, the steady rise in temperatures—especially in western Odisha—suggests the onset of pre-summer warming. The trend indicates that inland areas may soon experience hotter days if current conditions persist.
