Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued rainfall across several parts of Odisha over the next week under the influence of the prevailing low-pressure system.
On July 23 (Thursday), the IMD has issued an Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Keonjhar districts. A Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are also likely in most coastal and northern districts.
From July 24 to July 26, Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall will continue in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are expected to affect several districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj during this period.
On July 27, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at many places across all districts of Odisha, with heavy rainfall warning continuing in Balasore, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorms with gusty winds will persist in many districts.
The weather is expected to remain wet even on July 28 and 29, with a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall at one or two places over Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
The IMD has advised people to remain alert, especially in low-lying areas, and take necessary precautions against waterlogging, lightning, and strong winds. Farmers and fishermen have also been asked to monitor updates regularly as the monsoon remains active over the state.
