Bhubaneswar: Elizabeth Faure representative and country director, World Food Program, India and Himanshu Bal, Head WFP, Odisha paid a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo in Lok Seva Bhavan on Friday.
Faure explained the journey of WFP in Odisha and the long-standing engagement of WFP with Odisha towards achieving sustainable food security and nutrition.
WFP in Odisha is working in the areas of food access, improved nutrition to women and children, resilience building, women empowerment and disaster preparedness.
WFPs innovative Pilots with green ATM, mobile storage units and solar-powered cold storage go a long way to create a model of a Sustainable food system and reduce post-harvest losses.
WFPs committed their fullest co-operation to the State in its endeavour towards SDG-2 and sought the supply of the government. WFP will work more in the areas of agricultural development and with adaptive practices to address climate change issues.
Deputy CM Singh Deo said that the Government is paying special attention to the implementation of various services and government schemes. Singh Deo informed the Country Director that efforts have been made to ensure that all government facilities are available to the people of the lower strata of the society. The government’s budget is currently being prepared, he added.
Singh Deo told Faure that all the schemes related to financial grants would be successfully implemented. He discussed the various initiatives taken by the Department of Agriculture to the Country Director and sought the help of WFP to help facilitate the government’s welfare schemes and its availability
