Bhubaneswar: ‘Sneha’, the 14-year-old white tigress at Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, succumbed to her ailments while undergoing treatment at the zoo on Friday.
The tigress fell ill on Thursday and was under medication. She was suffering from age-related problems that worsened due to the intense heatwave prevailing in the region for the last few days.
‘Sneha’ was born to the Royal Bengal tiger ‘Nishan’ and white tigress ‘Kusum’ on March 1, 2010. She was the proud mother of eight tigers at the zoo.
She delivered three tiger cubs — Mousumi, Chinu and rare melanistic Vicky on August 5, 2016, and two tiger male cubs – Luv and Kush – after her second pregnancy. Again, ‘Sneha’ gave birth to three male tiger cubs – Rakesh, Rocky and Banshi on March 28, 2021, after mating with tiger Saif.
