Bhubaneswar: An elderly person died after being trampled by a wild elephant at Kanja village under Bantala forest range in Angul district, on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Somnath Behera, a resident of Kanja village.
According to reports, Behera was heading to his mango orchard early in the morning when the elephant suddenly attacked him. As a result, Behera died on the spot.
Upon being informed, Forest Department officials have reached the spot and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, the concerned authorities advised the local community to exercise caution while venturing into forest areas, as wild elephant encounters have been on the rise in the region.
