Bhubaneswar: A 65-year-old woman died after being trampled by a rogue elephant under the Telkoi police limits area in Keonjhar district.
The deceased, identified as Banita Majhi, was a resident of Galada village under Kaliahata panchayat.
According to reports, a herd of nine elephants strayed into the village in search of food around 11:30 pm and damaged several houses, including Majhi’s house.
As Majhi tried to flee to a neighbour’s house, the elephants attacked her, dragging her about 10 meters away from her home and trampling her to death. Her granddaughter narrowly escaped the attack.
Upon being informed, the forest department and police have reached the spot and seized the body. The local residents are living in fear due to the frequent elephant attacks in the area.
