Nabarangapur: A special team of Nabarangapur Forest Division on Tuesday rescued a live pangolin weighing around 8.970 kg and arrested a person in this connection.
According to sources, the operation was carried out under the direction of Nabarangapur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shubhendu Prasad Behera, and a team led by Kodinga Range Officer Purna Chandra Nanda, along with other staff, was able to rescue the pangolin and arrest the accused Kamal Singh Gouda, a resident of Junapani village under Kosagumuda block.
The team received a tip-off about the pangolin being smuggled and laid a trap. Accordingly, the team launched a raid resulting in the successful rescue of a live pangolin and the arrest of Gouda. The team seized a motorbike and a mobile phone from the accused during the raid.
The rescued pangolin is being cared for at the forest department’s facility, and further investigation is underway.
