Woman Attempts Self-Immolation In Front Of Mahanga Police Station

Cuttack: A woman sustained nearly 54 per cent burns after she set herself afire in front of Mahanga police station on Friday.

The woman identified as Rashmita of Kartang village doused herself with petrol before setting herself on fire and was admitted to SCB Medical College & Hospital (SCBMC&H) in critical condition.

According to reports, on Thursday night police arrested Rashmita’s husband Sankar Das on charges of theft.

Rashmita reached Mahanga police station in the morning today and pleaded before the police to let her husband go as he was innocent.

However, the police were not convinced. An irked Rashmita doused herself with petrol before setting herself on fire. She was immediately rescued and rushed to the Government Hospital at Mahanga. As her condition was serious she was shifted to SCBMC&H.

The doctor who treated Rashmita at the Govt Hospital in Mahanga revealed that her condition was critical as 54 per cent of her body had been burnt.
