Koraput: A woman died allegedly after falling from a hospital bed at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jeypore.
The deceased identified as Bhanu Jani was the attendant of her husband Mangala Jani who was admitted to the district headquarters hospital on September 13 and was undergoing treatment for a fractured leg.
Bhanu allegedly died after falling down from her husband’s bed yesterday night.
“Mangala Jani had fractured his leg, I got him admitted to the hospital. Yesterday around 11 PM I got a phone call from the hospital that Mangala Jani’s wife has died,” said Mangala Jani’s neighbour Syed Habib.
Habib stated that after getting the call he had rushed to the hospital at midnight and alleged to have been not shown the body.
“They told us that they would show us the body after we report the matter to the police. There is none else in their family barring their two daughters. So I have come to the police station to lodge the report after which post-mortem will be done,” said Habib.
“My mother had taken my father to the hospital. My mother was sleeping and fell down from the bed. We have come to the police station to file the report,” said deceased Bhanu’s daughter Damayanti.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and investigating the matter.
“According to reports available with us, a patient was undergoing treatment at the Jeypore district headquarters hospital his wife was staying in the hospital as his attendant. She fell down from the hospital bed in the night. We have registered an unnatural death case. An investigation is underway to find out the reason behind her death,” stated Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhishek Behera.
