Jajpur: A 50-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her neighbour following a dispute over a piece of homestead land in Jajpur district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident occurred at Saroi village under Dharmasala police station limits. The deceased was identified as Nandini Dehury, a widow. Police have arrested the accused, Hari Dehury (30), in connection with the case.
According to police, the families of the victim and the accused had been involved in a long-standing dispute over a parcel of residential land.
Around 11 a.m., Hari allegedly entered Nandini’s house and engaged in an argument with her over the land issue. The confrontation soon turned violent, and he is accused of attacking the woman with a crowbar, causing fatal injuries.
Following the incident, local police rushed to the spot after receiving information and took the accused into custody based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s son.
Jajpur Road Sub-Divisional Police Officer S.K. Patra said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation is underway.
Preliminary findings suggest that the murder may have been triggered by the ongoing property dispute between the two families, the officer said.
