Woman Consumes Poison After Husband’s Death Due To Elephant Attack In Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a Heartwrenching incident, a woman attempted to end her life by consuming poison after hearing the death of her husband in an elephant attack at Govindpur village under Banspal block in Keonjhar district.

The woman has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.

According to reports, Debadhi Barik, a resident of Govindpur village, lost his life in an elephant attack on Saturday night.

A herd of seven elephants had entered the village and damaged paddy crops, which prompted villagers to chase them away. During the encounter, a tusker attacked Debadhi Barik, who was later rescued and rushed to the district headquarters hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Debadhi Barik’s wife, Rukmini Barik, consumed poison upon hearing the news of her husband’s demise. She was first shifted to Telkoi and then to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality.
