Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, a woman sustained critical burn injuries when her saree caught fire while lighting an earthen lamp at a temple on the occasion of Sudasa Brata in Aul of Kendrapara district.
The woman, Supriya Nayak from Deogaon in Rajkanika, suffered severe burns while offering worship at the Laxmivaraha temple in Aul.
According to eyewitnesses, Supriya’s saree ignited while she was performing the ritual, and despite efforts to extinguish the flames, she sustained burns on multiple parts of her body. She was immediately rushed to the Aul Community Health Center and later shifted to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.
Dr. Debashish Behera of Aul CHC informed that Supriya’s condition is critical, with around 45-50% of her body burnt. After providing primary treatment, she was referred to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital for further care.
The incident has sent shockwaves among the devotees and the local community, highlighting the need for caution while performing rituals involving fire. Supriya’s condition remains critical.
