Bhubaneswar: A 55-year-old woman was killed after being attacked by a wild elephant attack in the Hindol forest division in Dhenkanal on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Jayanti Sahu, a resident of Dhundinali village under Ward No. 5 of Hindol NAC in Dhenkanal district.
According to reports, Jayanti had gone to her cashew orchard in the morning when a lone tusker suddenly appeared before her. Unable to escape, she became a victim of the elephant’s attack. The animal reportedly trampled her from the chest down to her legs, crushing her body severely.
Local villagers and forest department personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured woman to the Hindol Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
This is the latest incident of growing human-elephant conflict in the Hindol area. Residents claimed that such confrontations have become frequent, with both humans and elephants losing their lives repeatedly. They have demanded a permanent and effective solution from the authorities to mitigate the ongoing conflict.
